Former DILG undersecretary Martin Diño passes away at 66

MANILA, Philippines – Martin Diño, former Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Undersecretary, has passed away on August 8, 2023 after battling cancer. He was 66.

The sad news was confirmed by his daughter actress Liza Diño in a Facebook post.

"It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Martin Diño, Former Undersecretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG)," Liza shared.

'Bobot' as he is fondly called, died at 2:15 am surrounded by his family.

He suffered from acute respiratory failure and has been battling with stage IV lung cancer for more than a year.

"Martin Diño was not only a dedicated public servant but also a loving husband, father, brother, and friend. His unwavering commitment to his responsibilities, his tireless work ethic, and his passion for service defined his life's journey. His contributions to our nation's progress, particularly on local governance and barangay development, will forever stand as a testament to his commitment to a better society," Liza added.


Prior to his appointment as DILG Undersecretary, Diño served as the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) chairperson.

He was also former Chairman of the Violence Against Crime and Corruption (VACC) organization.

"Through VACC, he stood unwaveringly by the side of the marginalized, his dedication and commitment leaving an indelible mark on the fight for a better world," Liza said.

The family said to share details of his funeral arrangements soon.
