Nanay Jocelyn couldn’t be any more proud of her children. Not only did they achieve their dreams of passing their respective licensure exams, but they were also among the top 10 with the highest scores. Her son, Emmanuel, ranked no. 6 in the 2022 Certified Public Accountant Licensure Examination (CPALE), while her daughter, Maricar, was top 7 in the October 2022 Licensure Examination for Professional Teachers-Secondary Level.

Nanay Jocelyn said, “Sobrang tuwa at di namin inaasahan na maabot yun. Ipinagdasal namin na makapasa lang, pero nag-top pa sila.”

According to Nanay Jocelyn, her children’s road to success was far from easy, because they grew up in poverty. Nanay Jocelyn has 7 children. She and her husband work together selling ice cream, halo-halo, and ice scramble. But she’s very lucky because her children persevered to get scholarships to finish and excel in their studies.

Emmanuel was a consistent honor student from elementary school until he graduated as a cum laude at Bicol University. He was able to finish his education through scholarships and the support of their relatives. To fund his review, he worked as a text-based tutor.

Meanwhile, Maricar graduated with a degree in Bachelor of Science in Education with a major in Filipino at the Dr. Emilio B. Espinosa Sr. Memorial State College of Agriculture and Technology. According to Maricar, her biggest inspiration is her family, especially her parents, who never failed to work hard and supported her along the way. Maricar also thanked her older sister for helping fund her college education.

She said, “Unang-una po ay ang aking mga magulang na siyang walang sawang sumuporta at nagsipag para lang matustusan ang aking pag-aaral.”

Nanay Jocelyn said that she always advises her children to pray and give thanks to the Lord for all the blessings they achieve.
