The veteran broadcaster confirmed his return on his TeleRadyo program ‘Kabayan’ on Friday, January 6. He will mark his return by anchoring the Black Nazarene 2023 celebration on Monday, live from the Quirino Grandstand.

“Sa Lunes live po ako sa Quirino Grandstand para sa aking pagbabalik sa TV Patrol,” he said.

With his return, TV Patrol will now have 4 mainstay anchors. De Castro will work alongside Henry Omaga-Diaz, Bernadette Sembrano, and Karen Davila.

De Castro left the news show in October 2021 to run for Senate, but he later dropped out. Since November 2021, he has been back at ABS-CBN, doing radio shows. On TeleRadyo, he joins Joyce Balancio for the morning news “TeleRadyo Balita” and his public service show “Kabayan.”

De Castro moved back onto the small screen when he hosted ABS-CBN’s current affairs show, "KBYN: Kaagapay ng Bayan," which airs every Sunday on A2Z and other ABS-CBN platforms.

De Castro didn’t reveal the reason for his return to TV Patrol. However, his announcement came soon after Ma. Regina "Ging" Reyes, ABS-CBN Integrated News and Current Affairs Head, announced her retirement after 36 years of service.

Before his return to the show, there have been rumors that he will lead TV Patrol’s rival, TV5’s "Frontline Pilipinas." There were also reports that AllTV billionaire owner Manny Villar was set to get De Castro to headline the network’s news program, alongside Anthony Taberna and Korina Sanchez. Instead, AllTV decided to sign a deal with CNN Philippines for their news program anchored by Pia Hontiveros.
