Soriano, the husband of actress Toni Gonzaga, is expected to take his oath later in the day. “Confirmed. [Soriano] will take his oath later," Garafil relayed to the press.

Malacañang has yet to clarify Soriano's post description. Earlier, Soriano admitted he was offered the press secretary post after lawyer Trixie Cruz-Angeles resigned due to health reasons. He said he declined the offer saying he'd rather work behind the camera than speaking with the press.

"Yes, there was a conversation, but I feel that the position needs more qualified people to help the President,” Soriano said.

“I can be of better service behind the scenes working with the President’s media and communications team,” he added.

Soriano is a nephew of First Lady Lisa Araneta-Marcos. He and his wife, Toni, played an active part during Marcos' presidential campaign. The award-winning director also directed the President’s first State of the Nation Address (SONA) while Toni sang the national anthem.
