SONA 2022 LIVESTREAM: President Marcos' first State of the Nation Address

MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. delivers his first State of the Nation Address (SONA) on Monday, July 25, 2022 at the Plenary Hall of the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City.

Under the Constitution, the Chief Executive is mandated to report the state of the country, unveil the government’s agenda for the coming year, and may also propose to Congress certain legislative measures every fourth Monday of July.

House Secretary General Mark Mendoza said PBBM wants his SONA to be simple.

"The President wants the SONA to be simple para makapagprepare po siya ng message po sa general public. So far iyon lang po, gusto lang ni Presidente maging simple ang SONA," he said to CNN Philippines.

Executive Secretary Vic Rodriguez said Marcos' first SONA will be delivered “much like how he delivered his inaugural speech.” It is going to be a mix of English and Filipino.

The speech will highlights the outcome of the president's dialogue with his Cabinet in the past weeks.

“It’s all about our economy, the economic plans, the face-to-face opening of this coming school year. It’s all about Covid response and when we say Covid response, it goes all the way to the entire cycle of economy, not just health. You go into economy, you go into education, and so on,” Rodriguez said.

SONA 2022 will be available through special coverage and livestream video on PTV, Presidential Communications Facebook page and Radio Television Malacañang (RTVM) Facebook page and YouTube channel.

Other media outlets and top news organizations such as ABS-CBN, GMA-7, TV5 and CNN Philippines are expected to tap to the government communications office's centralized coverage for their live streaming.

Other things to expect on Marcos' SONA 2022

More than 1,300 individuals are invited to attend Marcos’ first SONA before the joint session of Congress.

This will be the first full face-to-face SONA of a Philippine president since the COVID-19 pandemic started. President Rodrigo Duterte’s last two SONAs in 2020 and 2021 were held in a hybrid or mixed live and virtual setup as a precautionary measure against the deadly virus.

Paul Soriano, a filmmaker and creative consultant at the presidential inauguration, will direct BBM's first SONA. The avid supporter of the president revealed to create two new camera angles to add to the visuals of the SONA.

The full text of President Marcos' speech called the "President's Report to the People" will be available online shortly after the Chief Executive has spoken or around 6:00 p.m.
