LIST OF PASSERS: DOST Scholarship Result AY 2022-2023

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Science and Technology - Science Education Institute (DOST-SEI) officially released the full results of DOST Scholarship for academic year AY 2022-2023 on June 12, 2022. The complete list of passers is available here once announced online.

As announced, 10,487 qualified for the 2022 DOST-SEI Undergraduate Scholarship Program.

Of this year’s batch of qualifiers, 5,567 qualified under the RA 7687 Scholarship Program—scholarships for students with high aptitude for science coming from economically disadvantaged families; while 4,920 qualified under the Merit Scholarship Program.

The DOST-SEI did not conduct the national scholarship qualifying examination due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Similar to 2021, the Institute employed data analytics and proxy indicators in place of the exam to identify qualifiers.

Documentary requirements were collected through the agency’s E-Scholarship Application System beginning October 2021. These documents, including the students’ grades in Grades 9-11, which were obtained and verified from their respective schools, were evaluated.

In the list, 4,465 names of qualifiers are marked with one asterisk implying some information or documents in their application that have to be revalidated; while there are 513 potential qualifiers whose names are withheld because some information/ document in their application relative to their eligibility to the scholarship have to be revalidated. They will be advised on the submission of these information/documents.

The qualifiers and the potential qualifiers will be receiving their notices in the coming weeks from the DOST-SEI or the DOST Regional Offices, the agency said.

The scholarship award takes effect in the First Semester of Academic Year 2022-2023.

The qualifiers and their parents/legal guardian must attend the Orientation on the Scholarship Policies prior to signing the Scholarship Agreement. Those with lacking requirements must submit the needed documents.

The DOST scholarship program is open to graduating students of the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) strand and non–STEM students who belong to the upper top five percent of the graduating class who wish to pursue a college degree on Basic and Applied Sciences, Engineering, Science and Mathematics Teaching.

Under the scholarship program, qualifiers must enroll in any campus of the University of the Philippines or any other state universities and colleges.

They may also choose to enroll in private higher institutions recognized as Centers of Excellence or Centers of Development by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED).

Qualifiers may also enroll in institutions with S&T programs Level III accredited by the Federation of Accreditation of the Philippines.

Qualifiers who will avail of the program will enjoy full benefits of the scholarship for the whole duration of their S&T program. These include the following:
  • monthly stipend of ₱7,000
  • a tuition fee subsidy of up to ₱40,000 per academic year for those who will enroll in private institutions
  • annual book allowance
  • one-time MS/PE clothing allowance
  • one economy-class roundtrip fare per year for those studying outside their home province
  • group health and accident insurance
  • thesis allowance.

DOST-SEI scholars are required to render service in the country preferably along their fields of specialization after graduation for a period equivalent to the number of years they enjoyed the scholarship as a return service.

SEI maintains its resolve that this strategy allows the country’s industries to have “the best minds” to do their services and products.

In the 2021 DOST S&T Undergraduate Scholarship Program, the agency named 8,067 qualifiers. Announcement of results took some time and was released in August last year due to "new selection scheme."

In the 2020 DOST scholarship exams, a total of 9,788 out of 102,526 (9.55%) examinees clinched their slots. Results were announced in five (5) months after the exam.

In the 2019 S&T Undergraduate Scholarship Program, DOST-SEI named 9,852 out of 73,712 (13.37%) who passed the tests. This was a record-breaking increase from previous exam, which was up by 10%. Results were released in more than five (5) months after the exam.
