MANILA, Philippines – Actor Piolo Pascual officially expressed his support for Vice President Leni Robredo’s presidential bid on Monday, April 11.
On his social media accounts, Piolo shared a short video endorsing Robredo for President. His message began by focusing on unity and how it’s such a good feeling to be part of something that unites people.
“Ang sarap pakinggan ng salitang pagkakaisa no? Pero mas masarap siyang maranasan. Mahirap at mayaman, babae at lalake, bata at matanda, lahat magkakasama. Lahat isinasantabi ang pagkakaiba para magkaroon ng ambag sa bayan,” Piolo began.
The actor highlighted how the Filipinos impressively displayed unity during the COVID-19 pandemic. Piolo showed how the public supported each other to procure PPEs and food for the frontliners. According to him, unity gave everyone hope during those difficult times.
Piolo went on to show footages of the “kakampink” rallies for Robredo. He said, “Ganito ang itsura ng totoong unity.”
He asked, “Naka-attend ka na ba ng rally ni Leni Robredo?”
According to Piolo, it was impressive that you got to see farmers walking just to reach the venue during Robredo's rallies. You also see the dedication of volunteers, parents who bring their kids, senior citizens, and many others hoping for a better future.
“Ang totoong pagkakaisa ay isang pangako na walang maiiwan, lahat tayo magkakasabay na humahakbang para sa pangarap na lipunan. At ang totoong pagkakaisa ay inspirasyon at panawagan na tayong lahat ay gumawa ng kabutihan,” he said.
“Hindi ito ‘yung pagkakaisa ng mga political dynasty para sa sarili nilang interes. Ang totoong unity ay pagkakaisa ng taumbayan,” Piolo added.
The actor said Robredo was the only one who could unite the Filipinos and the only one he would vote for as president in the upcoming election.
Piolo said, “Iisa lang ang taong nagpakita at nagparamdam niyan sa atin sa loob ng napakaraming taon: si Leni Robredo lang. At si Leni Robredo lang ang tanging iboboto kong pangulo ngayong eleksiyon.”
Piolo and the #PioloForLeni became a trending topic on Twitter following the actor’s endorsement.
It can be recalled that Robredo’s rival, former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr’s campaign slogan has been about unity. Marcos calls his tandem with Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte as “Uniteam”.
