On October 29, Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC) chairman Manuel "Manny" V. Pangilinan, the CCLEX builders, marked a major milestone — the main bridge deck connection. "After four years, we’re finally here. I really feel a sense of pride and relief although we still have work to do," he said.

Aside from Pangilinan, Cebu City Acting Mayor Michael Rama, Cordova Mayor Therese Sitoy Cho, and Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia were also present at the ceremony.

Once CCLEx is completed, it will boast a span of 8.9-kilometer and link Cebu City in mainland Cebu to Cordova town on Mactan Island. It has an 80-kilometer-per-hour (kph) design speed and a navigational clearance or height of 51 meters to allow large vessels to pass safely beneath the bridge.

The CCLEx surpasses the 5-km Candaba Viaduct at North Luzon Expressway that connects the provinces of Pampanga and Bulacan.

MPTC formed a public-private partnership with Cebu City and Cordova to build the P30 billion Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEx). It is now 86% complete and is scheduled to be finished in the first quarter of 2022.

CCLEx, the third bridge connecting the mainland to Mactan Island, will use an all-electronic toll system to allow for faster traffic flow and seamless travel between Cebu City and Mactan, which is home to the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), the Mactan Export Processing Zone (MEPZ), and some of the country's posh resorts and hotels.

It is thought to reduce traffic congestion and make travel more convenient. It is also expected to stimulate business activity and expand economic opportunities in Cebu and the rest of the Visayas region.
