Pacquiao to run for president in 2022 elections

MANILA, Philippines – Senator Manny Pacquiao formally announced on Sunday his plan to run for president in the May 2022 elections.

During the faction's 11th National Assembly, the boxing champ was declared standard-bearer of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) –Lakas ng Bayan.

"I am a fighter and I will always be a fighter inside and outside the ring," Pacquiao expressed after accepting nominations from PDP-Laban chapter leaders.

The decision came nearly two weeks after the PDP-Laban wing headed by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi named Senator Bong Go and President Rodrigo Duterte as their group’s presidential and vice-presidential bets, respectively.

“Exciting ito dahil malaki ang posibilidad na mananalo tayo sa darating na halalan at ang tunay na PDP-Laban ang magpapatakbo ng ating gobyerno,” Senator Koko Pimentel said at the start of the event.
