DOLE exec says 11,500 jobs in Guam await Filipinos

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Labor (DOLE) announced that thousands of jobs await Filipinos in the American territory of Guam.

Filipinos looking for a greener pasture abroad could consider seeking employment in Guam. Labor Attaché in Los Angeles Armi Evangel Peña said that interested Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) can find prospects in the coming years.

According to Peña, Guam is looking at hiring over 11,500 Filipinos across various sectors. As of now, they already verified 3,000 job orders depending on the recruitment agency and the approval of US visas by the US Embassy.

“In the next 10 years, kailangan po ng around 11,500 workers or more. Two thousand to 3,000 pa lang nave-verify namin na job orders. ‘Yung made-deploy po ay depende na po sa recruitment agency at tsaka sa pag-approve ng US [United States] visa sa US Embassy," Peña said during a virtual press briefing organized by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Manila.

Peña, who chairs the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) in Los Angeles, California in the United States (US) confirmed that she has discussed the employment status with Guam's labor chief David Bersolia. During their discussions, Guam officials assured that they want to fill up their vacancies with Filipinos and will not opt to hire other nationalities.

“Sa katunayan, minamadali na po tayo ng Guam na ma-deploy lahat. Talagang gustong-gusto po nila ang Pilipino dahil very hardworking at maparaan ang Pilipino kumpara sa ibang lahi," she explained.

The peak of employment will begin by 2023 but several job orders have already been posted on the official website of the Philippine Overseas EmploymentAgency (POEA).

"Ayon po sa meeting ko with the Guam Department of Labor headed by David Bersolia…Ang peak po ng hiring ay sa 2023, 6,500 po na Filipino workers ang kailangan po nila," she explained.

Among the jobs in demand in Guam are those related to the construction industry. Accountants and journalists are also listed. The following are among the vacancies in need:
