Many were amused to see these rather dignified workers scrambling on the floor, some on their knees, just to fill their plastic bags with the money scattered around by their boss! Yet many netizens also frowned over the event, saying that it is degrading for the boss to make the employees crawl on their knees just to get some money from the floor.

At the start of the video originally shared by the boss herself, Joreen Cuerdo Ruzol of Seaport International Freight Services, Inc., a woman could be seen holding the office door closed while she gave instructions for the workers. Once the door was opened, the workers scrambled inside, bringing plastic bags that they used to fill in the cash they got from the floor and tables inside the office.

They could be heard happily going around the office as fast as they could to pick the bills first. A woman, most likely Ruzol, could be heard telling them where to find the biggest bills – and they happily headed to her part of the office to find the cash.

Lots of money could be seen on the floor but upon closer look, there are also cash on the tables and chairs inside the office. Soon, the workers could be seen counting the money with happy smiles on their faces.

The video quickly went viral. While there were many who supported the office’s fun event, many bashed the bosses for letting their workers get extra money in this manner. There were many who suggested that the employers hand out the bonuses fairly and with dignity inside envelopes.

Responding to the backlash, Ruzol explained that this has long been the office’s tradition every first workday of the new year. They’ve been doing this for 10 years but were quite surprised by the recent attention.

She added that the workers had actually received their bonuses, in envelopes as pointed out, back in December during their Christmas party. The money game was just something they made for fun. It’s a tradition that they aren’t going to stop just because people bashed them, she added.

Here’s the video:
