Nadia Montenegro and group issued a statement on why they will stop helping John Regala.

Following the actor’s recent discharge from the National Kidney and Transplant Institute, the group of Nadia who helped raise funds for his treatment decided to take a step back from participating in John’s recovery from liver cirrhosis.

The group explained that they helped John with good intentions but the actor has been difficult and uncooperative.

“Out of love for John Regala and deep concern about his deteriorating health, we have gone out of our way to look after him the past few weeks. During this time, we worked together, seeking the help and assistance of others in order to tend to all of John’s immediate needs and to get him proper care,” they stated.

“Sadly, no amount of effort on our part can help a very uncooperative and difficult individual. In addition, John’s terrible habit of constant and abusive self-medication is something we cannot condone or tolerate,” they continued.

The group said there are circumstances that have hindered them to continue extending their help to John. “And so it is with deep sadness that our group has come to the decision to formally end our involvement in helping John with his medical treatment, care and recovery. As much as it is our desire to see this through, these unfortunate circumstances and regretful turn of events have made it impossible for us to continue,” they added.

The group said that they hold no regrets whatsoever for extending help to their fellow actor in need. They also outlined the next steps they will be taking.

They announced that they will stop their fundraising and close their crowdfunding page immediately. All the funds left will be transferred to John’s second wife, Gina to help pay for John’s needs. A complete accounting of the funds raised and breakdown of expenses will be presented.

In the end, the group thanked everyone who reached out and extended their help to John.“If not for all of you, John would not have been able to receive the proper treatment and urgent medical attention he needed in order to get better,” the statement said.

    John seeks help

The veteran actor has recently gone viral after photos of him looking frail and thin and asking for help spread online.

Netizen Carlo Marti Clariza shared on Facebook his experience when he met John sitting on a bench near the streets. He said John asked for assistance because he was feeling dizzy. He said, “Masakit lang isipin na ang dating idol kong kontrabida ay nasa ganyang kondisyon."

John later on confirmed that he is the man on the viral photo and admitted he is suffering from liver cirrhosis.

Since then, donations and support poured in for the veteran actor. Raffy Tulfo has pledged donations worth PHP100,000 to help John with his needs and treatment.

John was also able to virtually meet his son John Paul Kieffer who is currently in Arizona, USA. He is John's only child with his first wife Aurina Alvarez Manansala-Hunt.

Nadia and showbiz columnist/talent manager Aster Amoyo opened a joint bank account for John. Dreyfus also campaigned for a fundraiser to help pay for John's medical needs. Dranreb Belleza also contacted Liza Diño-Seguerra to ask for more support from their fellow celebrities. Ang Probinsyano Party-list Representative Ronnie Ong also extended help to the veteran actor.

During an earlier interview, Nadia already revealed there was brewing tension because John wanted to always have his way. Before being discharged from the hospital, Nadia said John would always insist on going home. When he is in pain, Nadia said John would always call giving them sleepless nights.

In the end, Nadia said she is praying for the best for her friend. She said, "He got his way all his life. Sana, yung plans naman ni God sa life niya, pagbigyan niya. Kasi, hindi nag-work ang plans niya sa sarili niya."
