Duterte tells Robredo: Don’t add fuel to the fire

MANILA, Philippines – There is no quick remedy to the country’s problems even if he suddenly becomes incapacitated, President Rodrigo Roa Duterte said, asking Vice President Leni Robredo not to “add fuel to the fire” as the nation battles the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

“At ito namang kay Leni, that in her ending statement said that kung hindi ko daw gawain, ng gobyerno, gagawain ng tao. Well, sa panahon itong pandemic medyo desperado ang mga tao tapos dagdagan ninyo na mga ganoon na wala naman kayong base, sana may ipakita kayo,” President Duterte said in a public address Tuesday morning.

“Please do not add fuel to the fire. You will just destroy government. Huwag ninyong sirain ang gobyerno kasi masisira ang tao. ‘Pag nasisira ang gobyerno, lulutang tayo lahat. Maski na sabihin pa ninyo mamatay ako bukas, it cannot solve the problem of the country.”

In a public address Monday, Robredo made recommendations on how to improve the Philippines’ economic condition in the middle of the present health crisis.

Criticizing the administration, she said the people will make way to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic.

The vice president previously gave suggestions regarding the government’s pandemic response.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said there is nothing new in Robredo’s suggestions noting her recommendations have long been implemented by the government.

Also on Tuesday, President Duterte has distanced himself from a group of individuals calling for the establishment of a revolutionary government.

“Pero alam mo, marami ngayon may naglalabas — revolutionary government. Tapos ako ang sinasabi na… Wala akong pakialam niyan, wala akong kilala na mga tao na ‘yan at hindi ko ‘yan trabaho,” he said.

A group called Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte-National Executive Coordinating Committee (MRRD-NECC) pushes for the formation of a revolutionary government aimed at fast tracking federalism in the country.
