Comedian Babajie passes away at 35

MANILA, Philippines – Filipino comedian Babajie, whose real name is Alfredo Cornejo, Jr., passed away due to pneumonia on Monday. He was 35.

Babajie died past 3 p.m. at San Lazaro Hospital in Manila, according to PEP.ph report.

The sad news was confirmed by Cid Cornejo, a cousin of Babajie.

"Un na pala un tinototoo mo ung mga msg mo sa akin..Bakit? Maaga pa.. Bata ka ka pa..

"Alam mo kuya na mahal na mahal kita.. Ikaw ang pinakaclose ko noon pa man ikaw nag turo sa akin mag business..

"Ikaw madalas kong kasama.... Mamimiss kita.. I'm so proud of U lagi kita ipinag mamalaki. Lagi mong kakampi.. Masakit kuya.. Ndi ko kayang sabihin..

"Queen Babajie Cornejo forever in our hearts. Kuya.. May you rest now...," Cid wrote on Facebook.


Babajie, who was featured in Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho and became part of "Bubble Gang", was known for his jokes about his long chin.


The comedian who had been confined since April 25, is survived by his mother, Minda, and siblings Almin, Alina, and Aljohn.

According to his family, Babajie's wake will be held at their home in Malibay, Pasay City. He will not be cremated.

Pneumonia is a severe lung infection and commonly associated nowadays with the contagious coronavirus disease (COVID-19). However, they did not mention whether the actor was infected with the illness.
