Meet 4 CPA Lawyer 2019 bar topnotchers

MANILA, Philippines – Four certified public accountants made it to the top 10 of the 2019 Bar Examinations.

As the results of the 2019 Bar Examination were announced by the Supreme Court on Wednesday, netizens couldn't help but be impressed to learn that a few topnotchers were already CPAs. Netizens quickly shared how impressed they were with the achievements of the new lawyers.

Here's a quick look at the four topnotchers of the 2019 Bar Exam who are now CPA Lawyers:

Top 1: Mae Diane Azores

An alumna of the University of Santo Tomas (UST)-Legazpi, Azores ranked number one with the highest score of 91.049%. She finished top of her graduating class in UST-Legazpi.

Azores also passed the Certified Public Accountant Licensure Exam (CPALE) in October 2013. She is currently a stated auditor at the Commission on Audit (COA).

She urged other students from provinces to not be scared to dream big. Azores said, "No dream is ever [too] big. We can always dream bigger. Kung iisipin talaga natin, kung kaya talaga, kaya talaga siya. Tiwala lang sa Diyos. Dasal lang talaga."

Top 3: Myra Baranda

Baranda is an accountancy graduate of Bicol University and a law graduate from the University of Santo Tomas-Legazpi. She earned a score 88.8250 percent, placing her on the top 3 in the 2019 Bar Examination.

Baranda passed the CPALE with Azores in 2013. She has been working as an auditor at COA assigned to the Daraga City local government.

Despite being a government auditor, Baranda said she found time to de-stress reviewing for the bar exam. She said, “Hindi ko masyadong ini-stress ang sarili ko. Yung kaya ko lang. Actually, during the review nga, I’m with friends."

Top 6: Kenneth Manuel

Manuel is an alumnus of UST for his law degree. He ranked sixth in the 2019 Bar Exam with a score of 88.173.

He graduated Magna Cum Laude in his BS Accountancy degree at the Colegio de San Juan de Letran. He passed the CPALE in October 2014. A year after he became a CPA, Manuel became an Instructor at Colegio de San Juan de Letran. In 2018, he became a CPA reviewer at the Review School of Accountancy.

Manuel shared an inspiring message to all working students like him. He said, "This is for all of us who struggle to survive every day. This is for the people who continue to believe that there’s a good tomorrow in the sorrows of today. This is for all working students who take the burden of living double lives."

Top 10: Bebelan Madera

Madera is the valedictorian of the University of Saint La Salle (USLS) College of Law Class of 2019 in Bacolod City.

She passed the CPA board exam in October 2009. Currently, Madera is a part-time accountancy teacher at USLS and the University of Negros Occidental Recoletos in Bacolod City.

Madera said she held on to her faith during the exams. “There were a lot of worries but I did not doubt that the Lord would get me through,” she said.
