Philippines' COVID-19 cases surpass 1,000; reports 272 new cases

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Health (DOH) reported 272 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 1,075.

This has been the biggest single-day increase since the outbreak began.

DOH said that fourteen (14) more patients have died from COVID-19. The total number of deaths jumped to 68.

The number of recoveries, meanwhile, are now at 35.

To combat the spread of the coronavirus, President Rodrigo Duterte imposed a lockdown in Luzon, including Metro Manila, until April 12.

As of March 27, more than 500,000 individuals got infected of the virus, with over 23,000 deaths, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).
