Kind woman buys groceries for old man with only few canned goods in basket

MANILA, Philippines – Amid the panic buying and hoarding in many grocery stores due to the COVID-19 pandemic, there remain people who think about the welfare of others; especially the ones who are less fortunate. One of these is a young woman who recently went viral after she bought groceries for an old man who only had a few canned goods and some alcohol bottles in his basket.

According to netizen Lane Blackwater, she was just buying groceries with her husband when they witnessed the good deed of this young woman. She explained that they were queuing at the counter, just waiting for their turn, when they overheard the young woman tell the old man to get coffee, bread, and sugar as she will pay for the items.

Curious, Lane turned around and saw that the old man was bringing a basket with just a handful of canned goods and some small bottles of alcohol inside. His nearly empty basket was a sharp contrast from everyone else’s large shopping carts overflowing with groceries.

The old man shyly went away to get some bread but when he went back with just pieces, the woman told him to get more! Knowing that the old man was likely too shy to get a lot of items, the young man instructed her companion to get toothpaste and other items that he and his family are sure going to need in this time of pandemic.

When he went back to the line, the old man was rather surprised to find that his basket was full! He was still shy but he was smiling. He was, indeed, grateful to get help from this kind young woman.

What’s even more amazing is that several people who watched the beautiful moment also offered various grocery items to the old man that they had paid for themselves. The young woman’s good deed sparked a ripple! This old man went home with bags filled with various groceries for his family, thanks to these people.
