MANILA, Philippines – A 16-year-old student asked for private photos from his female teacher, but when she reported the matter, he punched her repeatedly at the principal’s office. The altercation stemmed after the teacher received “disturbing/embarrassing chat messages” from the student, who was not named in the reports because he is a minor. According to her affidavit, the student sent the messages to her last February 26, at around 1:20 PM.

One of the text messages asked for private photos.

Angry over the messages, the teacher reported sent screenshots to their chat group, to inform everybody about the student’s actions. So, the teacher-in-charge of the school called her on the phone and told her to talk with the student at the principal’s office.

Trouble at the principal’s office

According to the teacher, the student is under treatment for behavioral and psychological problems. He also has a record of assaulting other teachers before her, as shown on his school records. He is also in constant trouble against the other students.

At the principal’s office, Teacher Kristel asked the student in a low voice why he’s been sending those disturbing text messages, but he denied her accusations. She asked him to apologize for previously calling her “dumb”, but this angered the boy who shouted at her in the local language, “So what? I am being blamed for everything!”

Seeing that the student was angry, Teacher Kristel stopped talking. But the student stood up, removed his sling bag and ID, put his cellphone down, and started punching her several times. He grabbed her hair and pushed her down on the sofa, leading to her feeling dizzy.

Other teachers rushed to her aid and pacified the student. They also brought her to the hospital for treatment. She suffered a “cerebral concussion secondary to blunt trauma,” and was advised by her physician to rest for three to five days.

Though he is still a minor, Teacher Kristel is determined to file a case against the student. She reported the incident to the police and also requested the school to investigate the matter.

To ease her trauma, the teacher was transferred to Raymundo T. Tongson High School’s main campus in Barangay Talaban so she wouldn’t meet the student in school again. Acting assistant schools division superintendent Bernie Libo-on said they are “closely looking into the matter”.
