The crowd favorite, who made history as the first Filipino world champion in gymnastics, bested Vietnam's Dinh Phuong Thanh and Le Thanh Tung, who settled for silver and bronze, respectively.

The diminutive 4-foot-11 dynamo tallied 84.900 score while Thanh and Tung got 82.35 and 81.70.

Yulo became the second Filipino to qualify for 2020 Tokyo Olympics after his impressive performance at the 49th FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships.

He was initially designated as the torch bearer to light up the cauldron during the opening ceremony but was replaced by boxing champions Manny Pacquiao and Nesthy Petecio due to his tight schedule.
