SEA Games 2019 coverage, how to watch, game schedule

MANILA, Philippines – The 30th edition of the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games called Philippines 2019 formally opened on November 30 at the Philippine Arena.

The grand opening ceremonies welcome more than 11,000 athletes and officials from the 11 member nations. Spectators witnessed a world-class performance that will highlight Filipino talent, craftsmanship and values while delivering a message of unity and inclusivity among Southeast Asians.

The SEA Games 2019, the largest in the biennial event's history, comprise of 530 sporting events held in 23 cities across the country. This features 10 new events, including esports, skateboarding and kurash.

Participating nations are the following: Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines (host), Singapore, Thailand, East Timor and Vietnam.

The closing ceremony will be held in the athletics stadium in New Clark City where performance from Black Eyed Peas is expected.

SEA Games 2019 coverage

The following media outfits are the official broadcasters of the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines: ABS-CBN, TV5 Network, One Sports, Cignal, SkyCable, S+A, ESPN 5, People's Television (PTV) and GMA Network.

Live telecast of the games will be broadcasted by two of the biggest networks in the country, ABS-CBN and TV5.

ABS-CBN Channel 2 got the exclusive airing of the opening ceremonies, starting 6:50 pm, with livestreaming on iWant, and replay on S+A at 10 pm.

Matches in popular sports like volleyball and football will also air live exclusively on ABS-CBN S+A on free TV, LIGA on cable TV, with livestreaming on iWant. Games will also be broadcast on high definition on S+A HD and LIGA HD, while there will be two SEA Games Freeview channels on SKY. The closing ceremonies will also be live on these platforms on December 11 at 6:30 pm.

Meanwhile, TV5 will take care of the telecast of the games that will be played from November 30-December 11.

TV5 together with Cignal have their umbrella campaign called “Sama-Sama sa SEA Games”. On free TV, viewers can watch on TV5 and TV5 Plus. TV5 will air basketball, boxing, billiards and badminton while TV5 Plus will air Esports, taekwondo, karatedo, wushu and weightlifting.

For Cignal subscribers, the games can be viewed on One Sports plus three new channels, namely the SEA Games News Channel (Ch197), SEA Games Channel (Ch198) and Team Pilipinas (Ch 199), which are exclusive for Cignal and SatLite subscribers.

On digital platform, there is Cignal Play app plus three SEA Games-dedicated YouTube channels that will be available 24/7.

Basketball and volleyball schedule

The men's basketball is looking to defend supremacy as it guns for a 13th straight gold medal and 18th overall.

All games are set at 8:15 pm at the Mall of Asia Arena. Here's the schedule:

  • December 4 (Wednesday): Philippines vs. Singapore
  • December 6 (Thursday): Philippines vs. Vietnam
  • December 6 (Saturday): Philippines vs. Myanmar

Meanwhile, volleyball games, which will be headlined by local sports heroes like Marck Espejo and Bryan Bagunas from the men’s national team and Alyssa Valdez and Aby Marano from the women’s national team, will fire off on December 2 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
