MANILA, Philippines – Veteran actor Eddie Garcia has fallen into coma on Saturday, June 8, after collapsing while taping for a new teleserye, with the working title of “Rosang Agimat” for GMA 7.

The incident happened at the set of the new teleserye in Tondo, Manila. The 90-year-old actor was rushed to the nearest hospital but was later moved to a bigger hospital in Quezon City.

Fans were worried after photos of the actor being carried by several people were posted on social media with reports of his collapse.

“Pray for Eddie Garcia. Initial reports say he fell down during his teleserye taping for GMA-7. Acc to a post by Direk Armand Reyes, he is currently in coma in a hospital in Tondo,” confirmed TV reporter MJ Marfori.

Prayers poured in for the veteran actor, with Direk Armand Reyes confirming that the actor was rushed to Mary Johnston Hospital in Tondo before being transferred to a hospital in Quezon City.

Reyes wrote on Facebook:

“FLASH: Na-revive na umano si veteran actor Eddie 'Manoy' Garcia at ililipat na sa isang ospital sa Quezon City.

Magkaganunpaman, hinihiling na ituloy ang pagdarasal para sa lubos niyang kaligtasan. Let's all continue praying for Eddie Garcia.

Natumba siya kaninang umaga sa taping ng bagong teleseryeng ginagawa sa GMA-7. Comebacking serye ito ni Eddie sa Siete since "Little Nanay." Tentative title is "Rosang Agimat."

The family has issued an official statement regarding his condition:

“Manoy Eddie Garcia was at a taping this Saturday morning when he suffered from a severe heart attack. He is still under critical observation and all his doctors are doing their best to assure that he gets the best care.

Our family would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to all those who have expressed concern and extended prayers. Please continue praying for Tito Eddie’s fast recovery. At 90, he is still doing what he loves most, acting. He is a pillar of the industry and is very passionate about his craft. We would like to request his fans and everyone to pray with us so he could get better the soonest time possible. Thank you.”
