MANILA, Philippines – One young man posted an incredible version of the #10YearChallenge – and this could be the best yet!

From the cancer patient who barely knew whether he would last another day, Gacias would become an inspiration to many after becoming a doctor to help those in need, people with whom he could easily relate to after the experience he had.

“10 years ago ang pinagdadasal ko lang naman ay ang gumaling, wala akong idea na gagawin mo pala akong instrumento para ako naman ang makapagpagaling ng iba. Sobrang amazing mo Lord! Thank you! I am now licensed to heal,” Gacias wrote on Facebook, sharing a side-by-side photo of himself as a patient and as a doctor.

Gacias shared that he was just 19 years old when he got diagnosed with Malignant Germ cell tumor, a kind of lung cancer. This was back in July 2008. At the time, Gacias was a nursing student who dreamed of helping his family someday.

The cancer diagnosis scared him, especially because he was so young but had a lot of responsibilities hanging on his shoulders as the eldest son.

He was able to overcome his bout with cancer and eventually complete his undergraduate studies before working on his medical degree. Sadly, Gacias’ mother was not able to survive her own battle with cancer – and his brother would die from an accident.

But he did not let those hardships and trials stop him from working hard to reach his dreams. According to Gacias, his brother was his main inspiration why he went to med school.

As he recently passed the licensure exams for doctors, Gacias became an inspiration to many who are suffering various medical conditions and feel that there might no longer be hope for them in the future.

“Kahit anong struggle sa buhay just focus on your goals no matter how hard it is. Kasi God will make a way. Magtiwala lang tayo kay Lord…Wag po tayong mawalan ng pag-asa, laban lang everyday,” Gacias said.

What an inspiration!
