Regine Velasquez “happy and overwhelmed” as now officially a Kapamilya

MANILA, Philippines – Former Kapuso star Regine Velasquez was in tears when she was welcomed officially as a “Kapamilya” today, October 17.

During the contract signing of the Asia’s Songbird, red carpet was rolled, throngs of reporters and supporters greeted the arrival of Regine at the ABS-CBN headquarters.

As soon as she stepped off her van, Regine became emotional as she was welcomed by several ABS-CBN executives including Cory Vidanes and Direk Laurenti Dyogi. Regine’s husband, Ogie Alcasid was also there to welcome her.

Overwhelmed with emotions, Regine said, “I’m very happy, excited. Overwhelmed right now.”

Sitting down with the big bosses of ABS-CBN, Regine shared that she is excited to explore making movies again. She also mentioned a few Kapamilya singers who she is excited to work with. Regine said, “There are so many great singers here like KZ [Tandingan], Angge [ Angeline Quinto], Sarah [Geronimo], Jona [Viray] and Morrissette [ Amon].”

The 48-year-old singer also mentioned Daniel Padilla, who she looks forward to working with. Regine excitedly said, “Hindi ko kasi siya napapanood na kumakanta, pero nung napanood ko iba yung dati with his long legs.”

Much to the cheers of her supports and fans, Regine happily exclaimed, “I am now a certified KAPAMILYA, woooooh.”

Regine earlier shared that she will be a part of ASAP’s concert in Sydney. She also bid a teary goodbye to her GMA show, Sarap Diva thanking the GMA executives and mentors who helped her through her 2-decades stay in the network.

Several Kapamilya stars have also expressed their happiness as they welcomed Regine in the network. Sharon Cuneta wrote, “My Songbird and I now live in the same home!!! Woohoo!! Welcome, my Regine.” Angeline Quinto also commented saying, “Magandang umaga po sa aming reyna. I love you idol.” Even Kim Chiu couldn’t help but say “Yazzz Queen” to the announcement of Regine joining ASAP.

The music icon is no stranger to the Kapamilya Network. It was with ABS-CBN that she clinched her first acting award in 2002, when she starred in the drama anthology “Maalaala Mo Kaya.” She also got leading role with Piolo Pascual in the Star Cinema film “Paano Kita Iibigin” in 2007.
