MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine team will try to bounce back in their match against Japan in the preliminary round of 2018 Asian Games women’s volleyball tournament on Tuesday, August 21.

Despite the straight-sets loss to Southeast Asian powerhouse Thailand on Sunday, the Nationals are still optimistic to rebuild and push harder to beat another tough opponent in the Pool A of the tournament (READ: Philippines bows to Thailand in the 2018 Asian Games Women’s Volleyball).

"It was a good start," said Pinoy volleyball superstar Alyssa Valdez. "It was challenging but we got inspired to continue playing here in the Asian Games. Whatever happens, we will continue this fight."

The Shaq delos Santos-mentored squad will face Japan, currently at no. 6 in the FIVB world rankings, at 4:30 pm (5:30 pm local time) today.

“Pag-aaralan namin s'yempre and definitely ibib'gay pa rin namin 'yung best namin and magte-training muna kami,” said delos Santos.

UPDATE: Japan won against Philippines in straight sets, 25-12, 25-15, 25-21.

UPDATE: Sports5 anchor Chuck Araneta said there will be no live TV coverage even on YouTube for match between Philippines and Japan. However, it will be aired via Aksyon on Wednesday at 8pm.

After Japan, Philippines' next assignment will be Indonesia, which will be headed by the hard-hitting duo of Aprilia and Amalia Manganang, and Hongkong.

The country's delegation is bannered by mainstays Aby Maraño, the team captain; ace spikers Valdez and Jaja Santiago and UAAP Season 80 Finals MVP Dawn Macandili.

Completing the lineup are Kim Fajardo, Cha Cruz, Kim Dy and Majoy Baron of F2 Logistics, Creamline’s Jia Morado, Ces Molina and Mika Reyes of Petron, Denden Lazaro of Cocolife, and Foton’s Dindin Manabat and Maika Ortiz.
