Several public health signage in Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental are going viral after a doctor complained that it leads the public with wrong information.
On Facebook, a Gingoog-based doctor Harold Rodriguez Cagang shared his disappointment on a health project from his barangay. Cagang, who admitted that he doesn't really enjoy talking about politics couldn't help but lament on how several signage near his home seems to be providing misleading information. He shared a few photos of the health signage.
One post showed the “6 F’s of Tuberculosis” and wrote down, “Fever, Fawis, Fayat, Productive Cough, Film, Filipino.”
Another one showed the message, “Eat to Learn. Learn to Eat.”
Another post had the message, “Don’t Let Drugs Keep You From Your Dreams.”
Cagang also shared that he heard from a “reliable source” that the project allegedly cost P50,000 and they made 7 of those posts.
As a doctor, Cagang shared that what bothered him is not the price but said, “How/where on earth did they get this kind of information?”
He called out to the barangay health officials to be more mindful of the sharing health information to the public. Cagang wrote, “Let's be leaders and not misleaders.”
The 6 Fs of Tuberculosis was actually taken from the mnemonics made by the Asian Medical Students’ Association. The message is usually accompanied by an infographic properly explaining the symptoms: 1.) Fever 2.) Fawis- sweats and chills 3.)Fayat -thin 4.) “Froductive” Cough 5.) Diagnosed using a Film-X-ray 6.) Most importantly, Filipinos. Without the right explanation, the message would really be confusing.
UPDATE: Barangay officials take action
After Dr. Cagang’s post went viral, the barangay officials immediately took action. The controversial public health signage have been “wiped clean” with white paint.
