'Bagyong Josie' PAGASA weather update July 22, 2018

MANILA, Philippines – 'Bagyong Josie' has maintained its strength as it moves towards the Philippine Sea, state weather bureau PAGASA announced in its 8:00 am update on Sunday, July 22, 2018.

At 7:00 am today, the center of Tropical Depression 'Josie' was estimated based on all available data at 85 km East Northeast of Basco, Batanes (20.8 °N, 122.7 °E).

TD Josie has maximum sustained winds of 60 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 75 kph. It is moving Northeast at 35 kph.

  • 24 Hour(Tomorrow morning): 565 km North Northeast of Basco, Batanes (OUTSIDE PAR)(25.4°N, 123.2°E)
  • 48 Hour(Tuesday morning):950 km North of Basco, Batanes (OUTSIDE PAR)(28.9°N, 120.8°E)

Tropical cyclone warning signal no. 1 was raised over the areas of Batanes and Babuyan Group of Islands. Wave Height (Open Sea) is at 1.25-4.0 meters. The following are the impacts of the wind:

  • Very light or no damage to low risk structures
  • Light damage to medium to high risk structures
  • Slight damage to some houses of very light materials or makeshift structures in exposed communities. Some banana plants are tilted, a few downed and leaves are generally damaged
  • Twigs of small trees may be broken.
  • Rice crops, however, may suffer significant damage when it is in its flowering stage.

The Warning Signal #1 over Northern Cagayan has been lifted.

Meanwhile, the Southwest Monsoon(Habagat) will bring monsoon rains over Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Ilocos Region, Cordillera Administrative Region, rest of Cagayan Valley, Mindoro provinces, Rizal, Cavite and Batangas.

Residents of these areas, especially those living near river channels, in low-lying and in mountainous areas are advised to take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslide, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices and continue monitoring for updates.

Sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of Northern Luzon and the western seaboard of Central Luzon, especially in areas under Signal No. 1.
