The singer-performer is now recuperating in the hospital after he underwent heart bypass surgery last Sunday, May 6. On Instagram, Valenciano thanked everyone for praying for his fast recovery. He wrote, “Still some way to go til I get back to tip top shape. To all who have prayed for me I thank you from the bottom of this new heart of mine.”

Mr. Pure Energy assured his fans that he is “A-Okay” but still recuperating. He said, “Day by day I’m getting better and one of these days, babalik rin ako sa ASAP, babalik rin ako sa Your Face Sounds Familiar and Tawag ng Tanghalan.”

Valenciano became honest and admitted that he may need to spend more time to rest. He said, “Paminsan-minsan, siguro mag-a-absent pa rin ako just to make sure that I'm in good shape. But the doctors are very satisfied with all how it turned out. My heart is actually in very good condition; doon lang sa isang part na medyo delikado talaga. But I'm here, I'm okay, I love you all and I'm thankful that God has given me so many people that have shared their love with me and I will see you soon."

The post was flooded by well wishes from fans and Valenciano’s colleagues in the industry, including Karylle, Kakai Bautista, Maja Salvador, Gerald Anderson and many others.

Letter before the heart surgery

Before he went into the risky surgery, Gary Valenciano penned a letter with his wife, Angeli Pangilinan. The multi-awarded artist, who has been battling Type-1 diabetes for four decades shared how much he is looking forward to living.

Valenciano looked back at the pain he felt dancing with his son, Gabriel. He wrote, “After that dance, I felt a sensation I’d never felt before—not even during the times I would push myself, riding my mountain bike on the trails for extended periods of time—I felt tightness and pain in my chest.”

The Tawag ng Tanghalan hurado revealed that the doctors said he had a “good heart” but “the main valve, my left anterior descending artery (LAD) is 95 percent blocked and now has very thin walls, because of diabetes.”

Faith is what keeps Valenciano and the rest of his family going in these trying times. He said, “I believe in my God who restores; my God who heals, and rescues, my God who is my strength… and my God who gives each of us a thousand 2nd chances.”
