'Bagyong Basyang' PAGASA weather update February 14, 2018

MANILA, Philippines - "Bagyong Basyang' (international name: Sanba) continues to move towards Southern Palawan, state weather bureau PAGASA announced in its 8:00 a.m. update on Wednesday, February 14, 2018.

Tropical Depression "Basyang" is possible to make landfall over Southern Palawan tonight, the weather central added.

At 7:00 AM today, the center of "Bagyong Basyang" was estimated based on all available data at 255 km South of Cuyo, Palawan or 310 km West Southwest of Dumaguete City, Negros Oriental (08.6 °N, 120.6 °E).

"Basyang" has maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 60 kph. It is forecast to move West Southwest at 26 kph.

Tropical cyclone warning signal (TCWS) No. 1 (30-60kph expected in 36 hrs) was raised over the areas of Palawan including Calamian and Cuyo groups of islands.

Scattered to widespread moderate to heavy rains will prevail in the next 24 hours over Palawan and Western Visayas.

Meanwhile, scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rains is expected over the rest of Visayas, Bicol Region, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, and Caraga.

Sea travel remains risky over the seaboards of areas under TCWS, as well as the seaboards of Northern Luzon and Palawan, the eastern seaboards of Central Luzon and of Visayas and the eastern and western seaboards of Southern Luzon due to the Tropical Depression and the surge of the Northeast Monsoon.
