In a statement from Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, said January 30 will still be a regular working day.

The Palace will not also declare holiday for January 27 (Friday), a day before the Chinese New Year.

Earlier, Quezon City Rep. Winston Castelo urged the government to declare January 30 a special holiday to give Filipinos "the opportunity to witness in their own backyard a contest where Filipinas have proven to excel and become certified champions on beauty and brain."

Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo was also in favor for the holiday declaration "so everybody could watch" the Miss Universe coronation in the country.

The coronation night of Miss Universe 2016 will be at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City, with 80 candidates around the world vying for the prestigious title.

Avid fans may watch coronation live on ABS-CBN Channel 2, TV 5 and GMA-7 on January 30, 2017 Monday 8 a.m. (Manila time).
