Sen. Miriam Santiago reveals she has lung cancer

Manila, Philippines - Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago officially revealed in a press conference on Wednesday morning, July 2, 2014 that she has stage 4 lung cancer, a surprising announcement amid reports she may be running for presidential election in 2016.

Santiago, 69, said that her cancer in the left lung is causing difficulty in her breathing.

The senator made series of announcement through her official Twitter account:

"I have come so you can me personally before cancer ravages my body. "

"I don't smoke. I don't drink."

"I hope to see you in six weeks recovered, after going through treatment. "

"Everytime I was checked for chronic fatigue syndrome, I would get a CT scan but they couldn't see it because my lungs were already filled with fluid and it just appeared as a small blur on the scan."

"When I go into remission, I might announce my candidacy for president for 2016 unless God gives me another disease."

In her latest post, Santiago thanked God for the life given to her.

"I am very happy with the life I have lived. I am very happy with the life God gave me."
