Miriam Santiago tops social media, presidential polls 2014

Manila, Philippines - Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago ranked No. 1 in a survey conducted by an online newspaper to determine the social media ranking of 24 senators.

In a separate survey by another online newspaper, Santiago in a poll for female presidential candidates, also placed on top spot with 83% of the votes, leading by a kilometric margin over the next ranked, Sen. Grace Poe, who garnered 8% of the votes.

In the online social media poll, Santiago was recorded with 1.3 million fans on Facebook, and 649,000 followers on Twitter. Santiago, who has been dubbed "social media superstar," showed her superstar power last Saturday, March 22, 2014, as she acknowledged a prolonged, noisy ovation from some 2,000 people at the graduation ceremonies of the Rogationist College at Silang, Cavite.

Senators ranked by the number of Facebook fans as of 20 March 2014 are as follows:

1. Miriam Defensor Santiago - 1.3 million fans;

2. Chiz Escudero -463,699 fans;

3. Alan Cayetano -382,480 fans;

4. Loren Legarda -249,552 fans;

5. Juan Ponce Enrile -199,424 fans;

6. Grace Poe -154,092 fans;

7. Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III -135,019 fans;

8. JV Ejercito -117,067 fans;

9. Pia Cayetano -92,488 fans;

10. Cynthia Villar -92,122 fans;

11. Bongbong Marcos -84,865 fans;

12. TG Guingona -8,464 fans;

13. Gregorio Honasan -8,381 fans;

14. Nancy Binay -7,886 fans.

Other senators, such as Franklin Drilon, Ralph Recto, Sergio Osmeña, Bam Aquino, and Sonny Angara did not have an official fan page but had personal Facebook pages.

Senators Jinggoy Estrada, Lito Lapid, Bong Revilla, and Tito Sotto did not have official or personal Facebook pages. Santiago also dominated Twitter as the senator with the highest number of followers, with 649,000.
