    Festivals in the Philippines February to December 2013 - schedule of Activities, celebration and highlights

    Philippines is very rich in culture that makes it stand-out from other countries. Annually, major activities and festivals is celebrated which signifies triumph, bountiful harvest and jubilation in every part of the country. We focused here the upcoming events from February to December 2013 for the schedule, celebration and major highlights of the festivities.

    Panagbenga Festival: Baguio City, February 1-March 3, 2013
    First on our list is the Panagbenga Festival which is now on their 18th year with a theme
    “A Blooming Odyssey.” Panagbenga, which translates to "a season of blooming" is the most visited celebration of Baguio City and considered one of the best in the Philippines.

    It showcases floral floats, native dances, a flea market, food street, and other Panagbenga-related activities such as Pony Boys Day, the Flower Tee Golf Tournament, a barangay garden competition.

    Here is the schedule for 2013 Panagbenga Festival:
    February 1 (Friday) - Grand Opening Parade, Drum and Lyre Competition
    February 23 (Saturday) - Grand Street Dancing Parade
    February 24 (Sunday) - Grand Float Parade

    February 25 (Monday) - Session Road in Bloom

    March 2 (Thursday) - Pony Boys' Day
    March 3 (Friday) - Closing


    18th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta: Clark, Freeport Zone Pampanga, February 21-24, 2013

    This year theme “A Weekend of Everything that Flies” is sure to give excitement and wonderful experience for the expectators of this annual event to be held at the Omni Aviation Complex at Clark.




    Aside from the Hot Air Balloon competition, The Breitling Jet Team is scheduled to fly their acrobatic supersonic jets, with the exception of Friday, February 22. More info here.





    38th International Bamboo Organ Festival: St. Joseph Parish Church, Las Piñas City, February 21-27, 2013

    This annual event is handled by the Bamboo Organ Foundation, Inc., a non-stock non-profit organization founded to preserve and maintain the historic Bamboo Organ.The Foundation organizes the annual International Bamboo Organ Festival held at the Las Piñas Church which has its mark in the international music scene with many foreign artist and musicians participating the event.

    February 21 (Thursday) - Gala Night
    February 22 (Friday) - Concertate
    February 23 (Saturday) - Concert under the trees
    February 24 (Sunday)- Evening of Organ Music
    February 26 (Tuesday) - Evening of Chamber Music
    February 27 (Wednesday) - Concertate


    Sibugsay Festival in Zamboanga Sibugay, February 21-27, 2013
    Sibugsay is a Subanen term and is a combination of two verbs: sibug, which means to move forward, and bugsay, which means to paddle.

    Series of activities have been prepared with emphasis on pro-ecology. It inludes fluvial parade and annual paddle racing to raise environmental community consciousness; street-dancing competitions based on the annual theme connected to Sibugay concept; cultural presentations and exhibits intended for cultural preservation.

    The Festival is marked by colorful ethnic dancing and rituals in celebration of good harvest. The ethnic dancing depicts good harvest, wedding and healing rituals.

    Caracol Festival in Makati City, February 27, 2013
    The Festival is initiated by the Makati Government to promote the conservation of ecology. The festival is participated mostly by students representing different schools. Participants are dressed in colorful animal costumes.


    Paraw Regatta Festival in Iloilo, March 3, 2013
    The Paraw regatta is a race among seafarers on colorful sailboats called Paraws in the straits between Guimaras Island and the city of Iloilo. From a simple boat race, it transforms into a festival of various activities.

    Kaamulan in Bukidnon (Ethnic Cultural Festival of Bukidnon) in Bukidnon, March 10, 2013
    “Kaamulan” is from the Binukid word “amul” which means “to gather”. It is a gathering of Bukidnon tribespeople for a purpose. It can mean a datuship ritual, a wedding ceremony, a thanksgiving festival during harvest time, a peace pact, or all of these put together.

    Crowd-drawing events such as the Motocross, Off-road Competition, Rodeo, Amateur Boxing, Invitational Basketball Tournament, Adventure Races, concerts, and several others are roped into the festivity. Garden Show, Food Fest, Kaamulan Bazaar, Agri-fair, and Livestock Show are among main highlights.

    Davao celebrates its birthday in a grand gala fashion befitting the largest city in Mindanao. The Araw ng Dabaw festivities come complete with a jam-packed, seven-day schedule of trade fairs and cultural presentations. There''s also a colorful civic-military parade and a citywide beauty pageant, featuring the smartest, most charming ladies this side of the islands.

    The San Pedro Cutud Lenten Rites is a Holy Week re-enactment of Christ’s Passion and Death complete with a passion play culminating with the actual nailing of at least three flagellants to a wooden cross atop the makeshift Calvary.

    Moriones Festival in Boac, Magpoc, Marinduque, March 31, 2013

    Moriones is an annual festival in the province of Marinduque that signifies Holy Week starts from Palm Sunday and ends on Easter Sunday.

     The main attraction of the festival is the Morions, those having mask and imitates biblical Roman soldiers.
