MANILA, Philippines - Filipina teen Marlisa Punzalan was declared grand winner of the highly successful "The X Factor Australia" as announced during the Live Results Decider Night on Monday, October 20, 2014.

Punzalan, whose parents are both Filipino based in suburb Mount Druitt in Sydney was the youngest grand champion of the Australian talent search since its run in 2005.


Irish singer Ronan Keating, Punzalan's mentor was extremely proud of her as she has bested Brothers3 and Dean Ray, who were coached by Dannii Minogue and Natalie Bassingwaithe, respectively.

"I'm so proud of her. She's been unbelievable. What a superstar. So deserving for the title," Keating said after the grand announcement.

The young singer also performed a duet with runner-up Dean Ray. It was followed by performances from American superstar Taylor Swift and "Australian Idol" winner Guy Sebastian.

Marlisa's powerful renditions of The Beatles' "Yesterday" and "Stand By You" on Sunday's performance night boost her chance of winning the singing contest.

Punzalan, which followed the footsteps of "The X Factor Israel" grand winner Rose Fontanes, are the latest Filipinos to make waves in international singing competitions, following the likes of Jessica Sanchez, Jasmine Trias, Madonna Decena, Charlie Green, Cheesa Laureta, and Joseph Apostol.
