Several speculations buzz online for the reasons why Atty. Lorna Kapunan resigned on Wednesday, October 30 as lead defense lawyer for the illegal detention case filed against Janet Lim Napoles, the alleged mastermind behind pork barrel scam issue.

Lorna Kapunan quits as Napoles Lawyer

Kapunan said that it's a collective decision meaning, it has a consent from Napoles and the other lawyer, Atty. Alfredo Villamor. Kapunan said she decided to resign as Napoles' lawyer to speed up the resolution of the serious illegal detention filed by pork scam whistle-blower Benhur Luy.

Kapunan said that Atty. Villamor is very familiar with Benhur Luy as he handled the investigation of the case. Villamor also serves as the lead counsel of JLN Corporation.

She also cited a "difference of opinion on strategy" as the reason behind her move to defer to Villamor. Napoles chose to follow the proposed strategy of Villamor not to go to presentation of evidence process.

Kapunan also said that pressure is not a factor in her decision whether to continue with the case or not.

"In this legal profession, you don't abandon a client specially in a situation like this. Let me clear that it's upon her [ Napoles] request.", Kapunan said.

At that time, Napoles wants to rush the bail as she wants to visit her mother's grave at Heritage Park Taguig  this All Saint's Day. However, the petition for bail was not processed by the Makati City Trial court before the holiday.

Kapunan said that she is still open to the possibility of accompanying Napoles to the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee hearing on the pork barrel scam issue on November 7.
