MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday, October 5, 2026, officially announced the termination of the Southwest Monsoon or Habagat season.
The announcement also marks the end of the rainy season over the western sections of Luzon and the Visayas.
PAGASA said a gradual shift in the prevailing weather pattern has been observed over the past several days.
The changes include the strengthening of the high-pressure system over East Asia and the southward migration of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).
The weather bureau also noted the weakening of winds and a decrease in rainfall associated with the Southwest Monsoon.
Forecasts indicate that these conditions are expected to persist in the coming days.
“In view of this, the Habagat season has officially ended,” PAGASA said.
The weather bureau said it will continue to monitor the country’s weather and climatic conditions.
PAGASA also advised the public and all concerned agencies to regularly monitor relevant information.
