MANILA, Philippines – (Updated as of 7:18 AM, August 11, 2026) Malacañang Palace and several local government units (LGUs) have announced the suspension of classes on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, due to the continuing effects of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).
Malacañang: Work-from-home arrangements for government offices and alternative learning modes for schools will be implemented in Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.
Agencies providing basic and health services, disaster response, and other vital services will continue operations.
Private companies and offices may suspend work or adopt alternative arrangements at the discretion of their respective heads.

Habagat to bring heavy rains over parts of Luzon, Mindoro
The Southwest Monsoon will continue to bring heavy rains over parts of Luzon and Mindoro from Monday, August 10, until noon of August 11.
According to PAGASA's Weather Advisory issued at 11 a.m. on Monday, 100 to 200 millimeters of rain (orange) may fall over Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, and Occidental Mindoro.
Meanwhile, 50 to 100 mm of rainfall (yellow) is expected over Metro Manila, Ilocos Sur, Abra, La Union, Pangasinan, Ilocos Norte, Tarlac, Nueva Ecija, Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, Batangas, and Oriental Mindoro.
The heavy rains may trigger flooding and landslides, particularly in vulnerable areas.
Meanwhile, Tropical Storm “Peilou,” formerly LPA 08c, remains outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as of 2 p.m. Monday.
Automatic Class Suspensions
The Department of Education (DepEd) has issued new guidelines under DepEd Order No. 14, s. 2026, empowering school heads to coordinate with Schools Division Superintendents and Local Government Units in determining CLASS SUSPENSIONS based on actual conditions in their communities.
The new policy allows for granular class suspensions, ensuring that only affected classrooms or grade levels are suspended when necessary, instead of imposing division-wide cancellations. The measure also provides guidance on selecting appropriate learning delivery modes before, during and after emergencies to help maintain continuity of education.
