MANILA, Philippines – Several local government units (LGUs) have announced the suspension of classes on Monday, July 27, 2026, in line with the fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.
The suspension aims to encourage students and teachers to watch the President's annual address and help ease traffic congestion in areas expected to be affected by security and road closures.

Metro Manila
- City of Manila – All levels, public and private schools (face-to-face and online classes)
- Quezon City – All levels, public and private schools
Quezon City
Mayor Joy Belmonte suspended classes in all public and private schools in Quezon City on Monday, July 27, through Executive Order No. 23, Series of 2026.
The local government said the suspension is intended to give residents the opportunity to listen to President Marcos' SONA and minimize inconvenience caused by expected heavy traffic during the event.
Meanwhile, Quezon City will also enforce a liquor ban from 12:01 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on July 27 as part of security measures for the President's address.
City of Manila
Manila Mayor Francisco "Isko" Moreno Domagoso also declared the suspension of classes in all public and private schools on Monday, July 27.
The suspension covers all levels—from kindergarten to senior high school, as well as colleges and universities—and applies to both face-to-face and online classes.
According to the city government, the measure aims to allow students, teachers, and other residents to watch the President's fifth State of the Nation Address while helping reduce traffic congestion in the capital.
