A respected cardiologist from Tagum City, Asis passed the 2025 Bar Examinations on his second attempt, making headlines as a physician who successfully crossed into the legal profession.
Asis graduated in 2024 from St. Thomas More School of Law and Business, describing the achievement as the fulfillment of a long-held aspiration, and then took the Bar Exam at Ateneo de Davao University on his first attempt.
“It’s not too late. Pursue your dream as long as you have the determination,” Asis said in an interview, a phrase that now carries the weight of discipline, patience, and courage accumulated over a lifetime.
He earned his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of the Philippines College of Medicine in 1980, finishing 16th in a class of 103, and later completed a cardiology fellowship at the Philippine General Hospital.
Asis went on to chair the Department of Internal Medicine at the Davao Regional Medical Center, where he strengthened programs and mentored young physicians in the region.
Beyond clinical work, he founded the Mindanao Internist Association in Tagum City and the Southeastern Mindanao Chapter of the Philippine College of Physicians, cementing his legacy in the local medical community.
Now a consultant at Tagum Medical City, he is uniquely positioned to offer both medical and legal guidance, bridging two fields that shape the well-being of individuals and communities.
His fraternity, Phi Kappa Mu, lauded the milestone as a testament to lifelong excellence, praising his achievement as a source of inspiration “through steadfast service in both medicine and law.”
In becoming a lawyer at 69, Dr. Cyrus Asis did more than pass an exam; he reminded a nation that purpose has no expiration date and that the bravest chapters often begin when the world least expects them.
