MANILA, Philippines – Organizers of the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2025 hailed this year’s edition as the start of a “new era for Philippine cinema,” citing long queues and sold-out screenings on the festival’s opening day, December 25.

Based on unofficial figures from reliable industry sources, Vice Ganda and Nadine Lustre’s film Call Me Mother dominated the first day of screenings, grossing an estimated Php 49 million. The film reportedly topped the MMFF 2025 box-office rankings by a wide margin, according to a report by PEP.

Total box-office earnings on Day 1 were placed at around Php 98 million, with Call Me Mother accounting for nearly half of the total gross.

Horror anthology Shake, Rattle & Roll: Evil Origins ranked second with an estimated Php 16 million in earnings. It was followed by Angelica Panganiban and Zanjoe Marudo’s drama film Unmarry in third place.

The drama sequel Bar Boys: After School placed fourth, while romantic drama Love You So Bad, starring Will Ashley, Bianca de Vera, and Dustin Yu, came in fifth.

Rounding out the list were social romance film I’mPerfect, crime-thriller Manila’s Finest, and family drama Rekonek, which ranked sixth to eighth, respectively.

Some reports, citing data from the Association of Philippine Cinema Operators, indicate slight variations in the rankings beyond the Top 3. In these accounts, Love You So Bad places fourth, followed by Bar Boys: After School in fifth.

As in previous editions of the festival, the MMFF Executive Committee has agreed not to officially disclose box-office figures or rankings during the run of the festival, leaving it to the producers to release earnings at their discretion.

Industry observers expect shifts in the rankings following the Gabi ng Parangal (Awards Night) on December 27. The organizers are also expected to release the official box-office figures and final rankings at the end of the festival on January 7, 2026.
