MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has appointed Department of Justice (DOJ) Secretary Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla as the new Ombudsman, according to an announcement from the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Tuesday., October 7.

“The administration remains firm in its commitment to fight corruption wherever it exists. As Ombudsman, Remulla is expected to uphold transparency, strengthen anti-corruption measures, and ensure that justice is administered fairly and efficiently,” the PCO stated in a statement.
The former Justice chief will now oversee the investigation and prosecution of Philippine government officials accused of crimes, especially those involving graft and corruption.
“There will be no sacred cows, no exemptions, and no excuses. Public office is a public trust, and those who betray it will be held accountable,” they added.
The office added that President Marcos, Jr. reiterated his commitment to upholding openness, justice, and adherence to the law, values that guide his vision of building a Bagong Pilipinas dedicated to the welfare of every Filipino.
Remulla succeeds Samuel Martires, who completed his seven-year term in July.
Since June 2022, he has served as the country’s 59th Justice Secretary. According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), the Department of Justice (DOJ) under his leadership introduced major reforms to modernize the justice system, address prison overcrowding, expedite case resolutions, and expand access to legal assistance.
Before his appointment as Justice Secretary, Remulla represented the 7th District of Cavite in Congress.
The PCO also highlighted that Remulla’s extensive experience as a legislator, governor, and lawyer has earned him broad recognition for his integrity and dedication to public service.
Malacañang has yet to announce his successor at the DOJ.
