CEBU, Philippines – A magnitude 6.9 earthquake struck Cebu on Tuesday evening, September 30, 2025, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The tectonic tremor occurred at 9:59 p.m., with its epicenter located 17 kilometers northeast of Bogo City, Cebu at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers.

Phivolcs said aftershocks and damage to properties are expected.

Tsunami Information No. 1

Following the quake, Phivolcs issued Tsunami Information No. 1, warning of a minor sea-level disturbance. While no destructive tsunami is expected, strong currents and rapid changes in seawater levels may occur.

The public is strongly advised to stay away from beaches and coastal areas in the provinces of Leyte, Cebu, and Biliran until further notice.

Residents living in houses near the shoreline are urged to move farther inland, while boat owners in harbors, estuaries, and shallow coastal waters should secure their vessels and move them away from the waterfront. Boats already out at sea are advised to remain in deep waters until authorities lift the advisory.
