MANILA, Philippines – Police General Nicolas D. Torre has been officially relieved of his duties as Chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP), according to a document released by Malacañang Palace on Tuesday, August 26, 2025.

The order, signed by Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin “by order of the President” on August 25, directed Torre to immediately vacate his post and ensure the proper turnover of all matters, documents, and information related to his office.
“You are hereby relieved as Chief, PNP effective immediately,” the memorandum stated. It further emphasized the importance of the continuous and efficient delivery of public services in the PNP, underscoring the need for an orderly transition.
The Palace did not immediately disclose the reason behind Torre’s relief, nor who will take over as officer-in-charge (OIC) of the PNP.
Torre’s removal comes amid ongoing efforts by the administration to ensure accountability and efficiency within the police force.
