MANILA, Philippines – President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has ordered the Department of Transportation (DOTr) to dismantle the controversial Mt. Kamuning footbridge near the GMA Network Center in Quezon City, citing its steep design and inaccessibility to senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs).

The directive, relayed by Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista Dizon, emphasizes the administration’s commitment to improving public infrastructure for the benefit of pedestrians and commuters.
"Ang tingin ko talaga sa saloobin ni Pangulo ay hindi naman talaga dapat ganito ang ginagawa natin para sa mga kababayan natin lalo na yung mga road users at komyuter," Secretary Dizon said.
"Sinabi sa akin ng Pangulo, 'we have to tear it down and build a better one.' And I think that is really the essence of what he wants to do," Dizon added.
The current structure, often criticized for its extremely steep and towering design, has long been a challenge for many pedestrians, particularly the elderly and PWDs. The 30-foot-high footbridge has drawn widespread attention and even mockery on social media, being dubbed "Mt. Kamuning" for its mountain-like height.
In response to the President’s directive, the DOTr confirmed plans to replace the footbridge with a lower, more accessible design.
The new structure will feature elevators and direct access to the GMA-Kamuning EDSA Busway station, aligning with the government’s broader goal to modernize and humanize urban transport systems.
Secretary Dizon assured the public that the project will be implemented promptly.
“Malinaw naman ang utos ng Pangulo na gawing mas convenient ang facilities natin para sa pedestrians at commuters. At ‘yan ang gagawin natin, sisiguruhin natin na ‘yung ipapalit na overpass ay mas madali para sa mga kakabayan natin,” he added.
Construction of the replacement footbridge is expected to begin within the year.
