Magnitude 5.9 earthquake jolts Luzon areas, epicenter in Lubang, Occidental Mindoro

MANILA, Philippines – A magnitude 5.9 earthquake jolted Luzon areas with epicenter in Occidental Mindoro on Tuesday afternoon, December 5, 2023, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

Phivolcs said it traced the epicenter of the earthquake 7 kilometers southeast of Lubang, Occidental Mindoro.

It had a depth of 79 kilometers.

The earthquake, recorded at 4:23:55 PM, was of tectonic origin.

Metro Manila and Luzon areas like Pampanga, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, Quezon and Cavite also experienced tremors.

Phivolcs is not expecting damage from the quake but aftershocks may be expected.
