2 dead, 2 injured in Makati elevator accident

MANILA, Philippines – Two individuals are confirmed dead while two more were hurt after an elevator collapsed inside a Makati building on Friday morning, July 8.

The fatal accident happened early this morning inside the Burgundy Corporate Tower, Gil Puyat Avenue, Barangay Pio del Pilar, Makati City. According to reports from the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO), the two fatalities were identified as Manuel Linayao and Rey Miguel Gilera, both elevator installers.

At around 2:55 AM, Linayao and Gilera were on the 6th floor of the building trying to fix the elevator. Suddenly, the elevator collapsed from the 38th floor, falling right on the victims. Two more installers were hurt but survived.

“The abovementioned victims/deceased and with two other elevator installers... were fixing an elevator at 6th Floor when suddenly an elevator [coming] from 38th Floor accidentally fell to basement that resulted [in] the death of herein victims and injured two others,” the report stated.

A report from the Bureau of Fire Protection Special Rescue Force - Makat said they responded at around 3:46 am while additional ambulances arrived at around 6:44 am. Search and retrieval operations were made for the victims’ bodies while an investigation will be underway.
