    'Bagyong Malakas, Agaton' PAGASA weather update April 13, 2022

    MANILA, Philippines – The threat of heavy rainfall continues as 'Bagyong Agaton' weakened into a Low Pressure Area (LPA) while it interacts with active tropical cyclone outside Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), Typhoon 'Malakas' (formerly Bagyong Basyang), state weather bureau PAGASA announced in its 4:00 am update on Wednesday, April 13, 2022.

    At 3:00 am today, the LPA was estimated based on all available data at 65 km Southeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar. Meanwhile, Bagyong 'Malakas' was tracked at 1,545 km east of central Luzon.

    'Malakas' has maximum sustained winds of 150 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 185 km/h. It is moving northeast at 10 kph.

    TROPICAL CYCLONE WIND SIGNALS (TCWS)

    All hoisted Wind Signals were lifted Tuesday night.

    TRACK AND INTENSITY OUTLOOK

    The remnant circulation of the LPA is forecast to track eastward towards the Philippine Sea away from the Samar-Leyte landmass as it merges itself with the larger circulation of Typhoon 'Malakas'.

    Area: Eastern Visayas, Masbate, and Sorsogon
    • Weather Condition: Cloudy skies with scattered to widespread rains and thunderstorms
    • Caused by: LPA
    • Impacts: Possible flash floods or landslides during moderate to at times heavy rains

    Area: The rest of Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Caraga, the rest of Bicol Region, Marinduque, Romblon, and Quezon
    • Weather Condition: Cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms
    • Caused by: LPA
    • Impacts: Possible flash floods or landslides during light to moderate with at times heavy rains
    Area: Metro Manila and the rest of the country
    • Weather Condition: Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms
    • Caused by: Localized Thunderstorms
    • Impacts: Possible flash floods or landslides during severe thunderstorms

    TROPICAL CYCLONES

    'Agaton' was the country's first tropical cyclone for 2022, developed into a tropical depression on Saturday, April 9. Meanwhile, 'Basyang' entered and stayed briefly on PAR on Tuesday, April 12.

    On average, there are 20 tropical cyclones that could form or enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility each year. Only half of those are projected to make landfall.

    DAMAGE, DEATH TOLL

    The Department of Agriculture on Tuesday said that 'Agaton' had so far caused an estimated P265.3 million worth of damage on agriculture, livestock, and fisheries.

    National disaster agencies also reported death toll of 30 since the storm made landfall in Guiuan in Samar province on Sunday.
