On December 18, 2021, Roanne and Ronnie Madredeo were supposed to have a normal day not expecting that it was going to change their lives. The couple had just gotten married last August 29, 2021, and was starting their marriage together. Ronnie was ready to prepare breakfast for his wife when their liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) exploded. It quickly created a fire on the first floor of their house. But instead of running away from their house to safety, Ronnie rushed to the second floor to check on his wife.

Roanne saw how her husband struggled to reach her despite having injuries from the explosion. “He was already burned pero nagawa niya pa din umakyat to check on me, kahit naghahabol na siya ng hininga," Roanne said.

And while the sight of her husband was devastating for Roanne, Ronnie’s words were what struck her the most. According to Roanne, her husband said that no matter what happens, he was glad that she was safe.

“Ang sinabi nya po sa akin habang nakahawak sa pisngi ko ‘Beb, okay na ako. Basta alam kong okay ka at walang nangyari sa'yo, masaya na ako. Kahit anong mangyari, masaya ako,’” she recounted.

Ronnie endured operations while at the Philippine General Hospital (PGH) for second-degree burns. Unfortunately, he passed away on December 23, 2021.

The couple spent four months of marriage before Ronnie died. Roanne said she is still grateful that they were given a chance to be together even though it was short-lived. The grieving wife wrote, “I will be forever grateful that God picked me to be your wife. It was short but every minute and second with you is really worth it. Your unconditional love will be cherished forever beb. I love you and I miss you every single day.”
