DOH probes breach in COVID-19 vaccination protocol

MANILA, Philippines – A vaccination video showing a volunteer nurse failing to push the contents of a syringe containing COVID-19 vaccine is under the investigation of the Department of Health (DOH).

Shortly after the video went viral and received flak from social media users, the DOH released a statement saying that it was a “clear breach of vaccination protocol.”

"The Department (of Health) is investigating this breach in the vaccination protocol in coordination with the (local government unit) concerned, and reminds all vaccinators to take extra care and attention during inoculation," the DOH said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Makati Mayor Abby Binay has urged the public for understanding, admitting that it was a human error committed by a volunteer nurse in Makati. She said that the person receiving the vaccine in the video, who was eventually properly vaccinated, requested not to have the nurse fired.

“It was human error on the part of the volunteer nurse that was immediately corrected. Nabakunahan po yung taong nasa video. Naintindihan po nya ang nangyari at siya mismo ang nagsabi na huwag tanggalin ang nurse. We ask simply for the public’s understanding,” Binay said in a statement.

“Tao lang ang ating frontliners. Napagod sila. Nagkakamali. Pero ang mahalaga, naayos agad ang pagkakamali. Humingi siya ng patawad, at sya naman ay pinatawad,” Binay added.

Binay also dispelled rumors claiming that the nurse in the video was selling vaccines.
