Young woman becomes a millionaire during pandemic through live online selling

MANILA, Philippines – Despite the challenges brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic to business owners and entrepreneurs all over the world, a young woman from Baguio City has made her first million through live online selling.

While it was not an easy path for Joyce Sibayan, all the hardships she went through were all worth it as she became a millionaire at the age of 22. Sibayan shared her inspiring story through a viral Facebook post last April 26.

Sibayan started her road to entrepreneurship by selling preloved clothes, chilli garlic oil and cosmetics from Singapore. While she had the chance to open her own shop, the young entrepreneur had to close it because of the pandemic.

“Magmula sa simpleng pagtitinda ko ng preloved clothes, chili garlic oil (na ako din gumagawa tapos binebenta ko din sa school tapos bina bahay-bahay namin ng supportive kong bf Bryan para lang makabenta tuwing wala akong klase) mga SG cosmetics, pag oopen ng sarili kong shop (na dahil sa pandemic kinailangan kong isara) pag re-rebrand name it, lahat yan pinasok at sinubukan ko,” she wrote in her post.

Sibayan had to experience many failures before she finally found success in live selling. Through hard work, perseverance as well as trial and error learning, Sibayan achieved at a young age what many could only dream of.

“Kanina pag punta ko sa coop para mag deposit mangiyak ngiyak ako sa tuwa. Sobrang special ng araw na 'to, today I was able to hit my first milly!! Nagbunga lahat ng pagod, luha at pag se-self doubt ko kung tama ba lahat ng mga desisyon at career na tinatahak ko sa buhay. Today, I was able to answer those self doubts.”

According to Sibayan, what she achieved seemed impossible since she did not do well in academics and was not exactly an obedient child. In fact, there were instances that her parents had to report her to the police when she was younger because she didn’t come home.

Through her post, Sibayan wants to inspire people like her to not give up and be resourceful.

“Kaya sa mga katulad ko na, laging nasasabihan na walang mararating sa buhay at sa mga laging least chosen sa klase wag kayo panghihinaan ng loob!! Wala sa talino yan, asa DISKARTE yan! Believe me, that's the real deal in life,” Sibayan said.
