Duterte to choose Isko, Bongbong or Pacquiao if Sara, Bong Go refuses to run in 2022 elections

MANILA, Philippines – President Rodrigo Duterte will have to choose among a set of new names if Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and Senator Bong Go refuse to run for the presidency in the 2022 elections.

Duterte to choose Isko, Bongbong or Pacquiao if Sara, Bong Go refuses to run

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque revealed a few names that the President would likely support if the presidential daughter and his close aid have no plans to seek higher office. Among the names Roque mentioned were Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, former Senator Bongbong Marcos and Senator Manny Pacquiao.

Roque admitted that Go would only seek the Presidency if Duterte agrees to tandem with him as vice president. Meanwhile, Sara already confirmed she isn't running in the 2022 elections.

“In the end, kapag hindi tumakbo si Sara, hindi tumakbo si Bong Go, because he will only run for president if the president will run for vice president, the president will have to choose who has the number,” Roque said.

“He will have to choose from Isko, Manny Pacquiao, and Bongbong Marcos kasi wala naman nang iba,” he added.

Roque stressed that the President's endorsement is very important because of his high approval rate.

“The presidential endorsement will be formidable. Not only that, it’s not just the endorsement, it’s the machinery of government that will be working for the anointed candidate of the president,” he said.

Roque was also asked if he has plans to run in the upcoming elections and answered that he is still unsure.

“When you want to serve, you need to have the resources. So ako po, talagang hindi pa sigurado rin kasi nga it really depends if I have the resources,” Roque said.

Meanwhile, Mayor Sara, Moreno, Marcos, Pacquiao and Vice President Leni Robredo remained in the Top 5 choices for presidentiables in the 2022, according to Publicus Asia Inc. dated March 20-29 survey.
